Community Health Network (CHN) participated in the NAMI Gulf Coast 6th Annual 2018 Mental Health Education Conference held on Friday, October 5th, 2018, at the Nessler Civic Center in Texas City.
The theme of the conference was ‘Never Give Up HOPE’. Educational session topics were presented by multiple speakers to target the public, mental health professionals and community members. Jim “Mattress Mack” McInglave and his daughter, Elizabeth McInglave, were the keynote presenters and spoke about Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and mental illness.
Jennifer Carlin, LFMT, LPC, and Rick Ertell, LPC-S, Ed.D, provided a presentation on Co-Occurring Disorders and explained the importance of assisting patients through an integrated system of care. Jennifer and Rick provided an overview of the different types of treatment modalities, the current statistics related to the affected population, and the types of individuals who are most affected by co-occurring disorders.
CHN’s Behavioral Health Coordinator – Audrey Hamilton, staffed a resource table at the conference where approximately 100 people sought information about CHN’s affordable options for individuals with behavioral health and substance use disorders.
CHN is implementing an Integrated Substance Use Disorder program where patient’s mental health and substance use diagnoses are evaluated at the same time to support treatment. Integrated treatment plans consist of cross trained providers in both mental health and substance abuse dependence, or teams of both types of clinicians who treat both the behavioral health diagnosis and the substance abuse diagnosis simultaneously.
